The Rick Moody Twitter Saga: What Are We All Doing Here? Twitter is valuable, or a complete waste of time, purely based on who you choose to follow and what you’re looking to get out of it. I recommend liberal use of the unfollow button to optimize the signal:noise ratio in your stream. YMMV.
So much of the dialog that happens on Twitter and on the literary blogs feels masturbatory to me. It’s the same couple hundred people talking about the same issues to the same audience.
A recent meeting with two Caucasian well-respected literary agent friends of mine cemented that concern when one announced, “We’re all the same, [people the publishing industry]. We’re all white, we’re all over-educated, Ivy-leaguers, many of whom are trust fund babies.”
