Me, Interviewed

It’s been a while since the tables were turned and someone interviewed me, but Bloggasm‘s Simon Owens seemed to think I had something to offer, doing a little research beforehand and asking some really interesting questions.

Simon Owens: Since you’ve taken acting workshops, do you think this helps you when you’ve performed poetry in front of audiences?

Guy LeCharles Gonzalez: Immensely! I’m a relatively shy guy in large groups, but the acting workshops I took helped me feel comfortable on stage and, more importantly, in my own skin. Performing your own poetry to a bar full of strangers is one of the most extreme forms of exhibitionism I can think of, and I still get butterflies whenever I get on stage, but being able to hold a crowd’s attention, pulling them into your world and having them come voluntarily, is an exhilirating feeling.

Feels Like It’s Been Forever…

There are currently 758 new posts in my "Comics" folder on Bloglines, and 202 new emails in my Gmail inbox. I am once again three weeks behind on picking up my weekly haul from Midtown Comics, the second time that's happened in the past six weeks. I haven't been online for personal reasons (other than a couple of times for fantasy football) for more than 10 minutes at any given time in the past three weeks. Except for yesterday, when I had no choice, I haven't made it home from work before 7:30pm in the past two weeks. Star Wars:…

Where’d You Go?

Does anyone even read this thing any more? For the three or so of you who are still checking in, a quick update: I finally found a new job! After 14 years in various types of publishing-related marketing, I'm stepping up to the next rung on the ladder and moving into sales. No, it's not American Express redux! I can think of a million better ways to have my soul die a death of a thousand cuts and I have no interest in revisiting those particular depths. It's the northeast territory for a group of publications I've been doing marketing…

Say What?: Morrison takes on Miller.

I'm surprised no readers of Newsarama have commented on Grant Morrison's interview posted today. This may be part of a prearranged public slugfest, but Grant Morrison does make some interesting points.Guy will testify that I'm no fan of Morrison, but so far I like his take on Batman. And after reading the complete interview, I think I'm hooked for the run.NRAMA: But still, looking at the larger cultural subtext you're writing this in, what makes a grim Batman not appropriate for the world we live in now? Miller's working on a Batman vs. Al Qaeda story, and it's hard to…

Time For Another Break…

Posting's been light round these parts recently as the real world's been busier than usual, to the point where I even fell behind on my weekly pickup and am still slogging through the backlog. Too many decent but not great comics, too much non-news coming out of San Diego and Chicago, too many bloggers talking about the same boring subjects -- it all adds up to my being more interested in playing softball (we beat Martha Stewart last week, and the playoffs start tomorrow!) and Knights of the Old Republic (A.D.D.I.C.T.E.D.) than reading and writing about comics. It's break time, methinks.I'll…

COMMENT: Sesame Street Has a Lesson for Comics

When the question of diversity comes up in comics, it's always interesting to watch the likes of Joe Quesada, Dan DiDio, et al stumble over themselves to not put their foots in their mouths as they cautiously dance around the subject. The New York Times has an interesting article today about Sesame Street's newest female muppet, Abby Cadabby, that has some direct relevance to the comics industry.A Girly-Girl Joins the 'Sesame' BoysLIZ NEALON, executive vice president and creative director of Sesame Workshop, the nonprofit organization behind "Sesame Street," wasn't sure exactly what she wanted in a new Muppet for the…
