Comment: Synergy, A Summer Blockbuster Staple

With less than a week to go, the full court press is on to promote Batman Begins. I stated in a previous post that my Dad asked me when it comes out. The marketing gurus of DC's prized possession must be grinning ear-to-ear when they can get a 52-year old who was never into comics asking that question.2-3 weeks ago the country had only been treated to a handful of trailers promoting the release of the film, but now they're bringing out the big guns.Synergy is the name of the game, and all companies willing to pay, can play. Verizon…

Batman Begins opens June 15th, and the reviews are starting to come in. This weekend at Wizard World Philly's DC panel, lucky attendees were selected for an advance screening. Regular folks like you and me will have to wait a little longer to see DC's crown jewel in all its celluloid glory. I'm eager to see BB; hell, everyone I know is eager. Even my Dad, who's 52 years old and rips me for reading comics, asked me when it's opening!I'm sure rambling fanboy reviews will be flooding the net soon enough, but here are two from the pros. Newsweek's…

Weak in you, the Force is…

Revenge of the Sith is apparently secretly subtitled: "The movie mofos will come see no matter what I do, so I'm just going to geek out on the CGI and not worry too much about the story." Ugh, it was bad! Like Mystery Science Theater bad, just with better special effects. I usually like to stay immersed in a movie, no matter how bad, but this one I just couldn't help making snarky comments about the wooden acting and laughable dialogue throughout. For every potentially powerful moment, like Anakin's offscreen slaughtering of the younglings and the final fight with Obi-Wan,…

Review: Batman Begins’ Smallville Preview

WOW should begin and end every sentence when speaking about Batman Begins. Last night, America was treated to a 10-minute preview of the future blockbuster, courtesy of the WB Network. At the end of the preview my first thought was, "WOW!" My second thought was, "Hopefully I won't die before June 15th." It sounds ridiculous, but it's true. That's what I thought. Then I said another "WOW! "It looks like Chris Nolan will have another quality movie under his belt with Batman Begins. If you haven't seen his last two films, do so. Memento is great, and Insomnia is solid. The cinematography…

Longest. Week. Ever.

There's a request of my NY-area readers at the end of this, but first, the preamble. "Life, she is a roller coaster; for every thrilling dip, there is an uphill slog." I just made that sagacious little quote up, because it pretty much sums up last week. Long story short, we've squashed the Bloomfield house search - several reasons, among them the lack of full-day kindergarten, which we didn't realize until AFTER our bid was beaten on the one house - and for now, the overall housing search itself. Turns out fate had a Plan D we didn't know about.…

CBC INFO: Ch-ch-ch-changes…

Just a little heads-up on some changes afoot here at CBC. Most significant, in terms of content, is that I will no longer be posting current reviews, including ménage à trois, or interviews here. The Editor is a megalomaniacal control freak who insists on...Oh, wait, wrong site! I'm the Editor here!Seriously, though, last week I signed on with the recently re-launched Buzzscope.com - f/k/a PopCultureShock.com - one of my favorite comics sites that's home to some of the funniest, enlightening, and insightful columns on the internet. They also publish weekly reviews to which I'll be contributing my fair share, starting…
