Presidential Match

Found another Presidential Match site that has you rate various issues and, in a nice twist, at the end it lets you rank the general categories (ie: Social Issues, Security and International Policy, etc.) by personal importance. It then lists the candidates by how closely they match what you're looking for: 1 Kucinich Score: 100%2 Sharpton Score: 89%3 Kerry Score: 88% 4 Clark Score: 82% 5 Dean Score: 82% 6 Edwards Score: 79% 7 Lieberman Score: 69% 8 Bush Score: 3% Not at all surprising that Kucinich came in first. Sharpton and Kerry running neck and neck speaks more to…

When I got into Dungeons & Dragons back in High School, there were a number of other role-playing games I was familiar with - Gamma World, James Bond, Marvel Superheroes, etc. - and they all took place within fantasy worlds of some sort, past or future. Even James Bond, which took place in something resembling our "real" world, was at its core, a pen and paper version of the movies which are as far removed from the "real" world as dragons, elves and wizards. Times changed and D&D [in a PC vs. Macintosh business model kind of way] evolved into…

So they captured Hussein. Congratulations to the soldiers for a job well done but, in the big picture, all I can say is big whoop. The reality is that his capture will have little effect on the ongoing guerilla war in Iraq that has seen 317 American soldiers die since Bush declared an end to major combat back on May 1st. MAY 1st! That's 7 1/2 months of...minor (?) combat following the "war" that apparently lasted only 5 weeks! Fun with semantics, brought to you by the most illiterate President in our history. And all the analysts and pundits that…

Debate Wrap-up

Phil West has a great write-up on last night's debate. Funny stuff. My take on things? It was all a little depressing, really. With Kucinich, I'm at the point where I'm just hoping he sticks it out for the long haul and snags enough delegates to be a presence at the national convention. It says many sad and depressing things that someone like him doesn't have a shot to lead this country of ours. (In related news, I just found out that I may not be allowed to vote in NY's Democratic primary as some previously unknown deadline to change…

Everyone’s waiting for someone else to stand up…

I can't believe how pissed I am over this whole political thing! Like throw-your-hands-in-the-air kind of fed up and I can't get it off my mind! While I can understand the apathy to some degree, I can't understand how people don't see that apathy is the very reason nothing will change. It's like everyone's waiting for someone else to stand up and do something so they can follow. And when someone DOES stand up, they laugh them off as a dreamer, or unpatriotic, or a wasted vote. That thing I alluded to yesterday, where I said I'd admit to being…

“Governor” Arnold Schwarzenegger

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Say it out loud a couple of times so you understand that it really happened. Let it sink in. Note the feeling, if any, in the pit of your stomach while you consider the potential ramifications of a political neophyte governing the largest state in the country, in charge of one of the largest economies in the world. Identify the feeling you get from knowing such responsibility has been entrusted to someone whose positions on most issues are vague at best, and whose platform was that he'd go to Sacramento to "knock heads together" and "kick some…

Did some e-surfing on Friday, itching to find something spontaneous that we could do for the holiday weekend as the combination of no news about the apartment, bad weather and being in Hartsdale were quite depressing. Checked Yahoo! Travel for last-minute deals, Googled "family friendly bed breakfast," and scoured bedandbreakfast.com for kid-friendly accomodations, mostly to no avail. Came across one interesting B&B in Providence but they didn't have any rooms for Saturday AND Sunday. Picked through a ton of cheesy Poconos web sites before I finally found what I was looking for: Rimrock Cottages. Reasonable rates, kid-friendly, less than a…
