QotD: My Solo Getaway
Would you go on vacation by yourself, and if so where would you go?

Assuming money’s no object, I’d start in New Mexico, rent a real Jeep and spend two weeks driving throughout the Southwest — NM, Arizona, Texas, down into Mexico — taking in as many cities and open spaces as I could, never spending more than a night or two in any one place. That’s the most beautiful part of the country, I think, and I’d love to just soak it all in with no particular schedule of places to go or things to do, the Incredible Hulk TV show theme song playing in the back of my head each time I move on.
That’s a dream vacation, and really could only happen as a solo getaway.
More realistically, I’d take 4 or 5 nights in Austin, TX or Los Angeles or San Francisco, the latter two of which I’ve spent little (LA) or no (SF) time in but have always wanted to check out. Austin, of course, has always been one of my favorite cities and I’m really looking forward to getting back down there next month, even if it is during the National Poetry Slam and I won’t get to see as much of the area as I’d like to. Last time I was there was 2000 or 2001, I think, so I’m long overdue and even if I never get out of the downtown area, I’ll be happy to be there.
