My own Poetry, Fiction, Non-Fiction, and occasional commentary on all of the above.
Don't let the door hit you... No, not really! It's been a year of extreme ups and downs (and the downs were particularly rough), but the end result has been relatively positive. For the most part. I'm too lazy to shoot from the hip like Salomé did, and I already covered the comics side of things over at CBC, so here's a meme to wrap things up here:1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?Dealt with an autistic child and the death of a close friend.2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make…
Support GOOD Comics! Try something new EVERY month! There's a transit strike going on here in NYC, so who knows when I'll be able to pick up my books this week! Nevertheless, here's my weekly look at select comic books being released tomorrow, 12/21/05. The full shipping is list available at ComicList.[NOTE: Not all of these titles will actually arrive in all stores. If your LCBS offers a pre-ordering service, be sure to take advantage of it. Chuck Saterlee pulls the curtain back a bit further over on the Bendis Board thread that started it all. I'm quoting it in its entirety as I wouldn't be surprised if he was asked/made to delete it at some point, as it airs what could charitably be called dirty laundry. My name is Chuck Satterlee and I have/had two books with Speakeasy. The titles are SMOKE & MIRROR and OF BITTER SOULS.My association with Speakeasy has been decent on a personal level and disastrous on a professional level. To start, I have never had a personal problem with Fortier or anyone else,…
More changes afoot:...we decided this would be the perfect week to sneak in another new feature; or in this case, a revamped one. As “writing” and “waiting for the trade” have become the standard for most comic books and comic book buyers these days, we’re adjusting our package…I mean, our weekly review roundup, accordingly, paying more attention to TPBs and OGNs and a bit less to the “#3 (of 6)” issues that, too frequently, are little more than padding for a story that could/should have been told in half as many issues.Translation: capsule reviews of more floppies, with fuller reviews…
Turkey Day was as close to perfect as I could imagine; Salomé and the kids, a few friends, some good food, low-stress. Friday we hung out in Jersey, and Saturday and Sunday we chilled. Priceless!Five things I'm thankful for, in no particular order (except for the first one): 1) Salomé, Isaac and India: Without them, I'd be a leaf in the storm.2) Friends: Near and far, real and virtual.3) Extreme Makeover: Home Edition: For demonstrating on a weekly basis that there is still plenty of good left in this world.4) Comic Books: Because getting to the movies or reading a…
Can't title these by the previous Wednesday anymore since my posting schedule and To Read pile are wildly out of sync. Been home sick most of this week, though, and have been able to cut the pile almost in half. Rocketo #1 and XIII #1 are still buried at the bottom, and I'm thinking I've given up on following either of them.Infinite Crisis #1 and House of M #7: Seemingly every comics blogger and their mother has offered some sort of commentary on these two blockbusters, so I'm going to split my two cents between them. IC was overly dependent…
Just finished polishing off the first draft of my first official paper of the semester, for my Schooling in America class. Like 5 minutes ago, at 1:45am, when the last of 9 pages came out of the printer. Because I tend to edit as I go along, and do most of my research as I'm writing (thank god for Google!), it's really more like a second or third draft. We'll see what I think about it in the morning (well, later this morning) when I read it through with fresher eyes to see if it all makes sense, but I…
