Forgotten Realms: Dark Elf Trilogy – Homeland #1
An amazing addition to the four-color fantasy genre that has little going for it these days beyond Conan and Mu. As a D&D fan, it’s the next best thing to playing the game. PLUS, interview with writer Andrew Dabb.
Blacklight #1
What would you do if you had super-powers? Scott Wherle offers a pair of intriguing polar opposites as an answer – plus a new Latina heroine! – while delivering an accessible and entertaining story.
Elk’s Run #2
A compelling combination of Shirley Jackson’s “The Lottery” and Stephen King’s “The Body,” with a healthy dose of M. Night Shyamalan’s The Village, Elk’s Run is the sleeper hit of the year.
Genie #1
Whatever appeal Genie might have, and there definitely is a little something here, it is, unfortunately, in spite of its creative team, not because of them. (Includes a brief review of Hell, Michigan.)
Nat Turner #1
There’s rarely been a black-and-white newsprint comic book worth a $3 cover price, but Nat Turner is worth that and then some. A comic book so amazingly good it left a lump in my throat and a bit of rage in my heart.
Be sure to check out all of this week’s reviews from Buzzscope’s crack staff of reviewers – some of the best out there, if I may say so myself. Plus, Greg Burgas’ latest installment of Comics You Should Own: Avengers Annual #10. While you’re there, sign up and leave some feedback in the forum. It’s one of the more level-headed boards out there and while the usual suspects get the most attention, there’s plenty of room to talk about good comics, too.
Peace!
