I don’t know if I actually need to have one of these things since I don’t make any money from this site (shocker, I know!), but I do occasionally write reviews, and occasionally they’re of things I received for free , so better safe than sorry since there’s no charge for additional pages on a WordPress site!

My Disclosure Policy

For the record, I don’t believe in pay-per-post schemes so anything you read on this site that’s written by me are my honest, often unsolicited, always uncompensated opinions.

On the rare occasions I discuss or review something I got for free — whether a book, beer, or conference — I’ll always mention the source. While I used to be a bit of a malcontent and there are numerous examples of scathing commentary in the archives here — hey, “loudpoet” didn’t come out of left field! — my current rule of thumb is to focus on the positive and/or offer very constructive criticism.

Don’t mistake my striving for optimism as a reluctance or inability to call someone or something out as bullshit, though. I will get my rant on now and then, and no sacred cow is safe from tipping in my book.

Speaking of books, I do work in the publishing industry, and a lot of what I write is related to publishing in one form or another, so if it ever seems like I’m being overly diplomatic about something, I probably am. Not because I’m in someone’s pocket, but because I think it’s really stupid to get fired over a blog post. Or a tweet. Or a photo on Facebook.
