Parent’s Day at Summer Camp

Isaac's Day Camp held its Parent's Day today, busing a sweaty microcosm of the Bronx up to the woods of Pearl River for a few hours to see how much fun the kids are having every day, and why they fall asleep so easily at bedtime! Isaac was already in the pool for their morning swim when we arrived, and I caught about 15-20 minutes of him happily holding his breath underwater and splashing around, and reluctantly learning how to float with and without a boogie board. He was easy to find in the midst of a ton of kids…

Crystal Ball: September 2006 Solicitations, Part II

Support GOOD Comics! Pre-order something new EVERY month. Part I featured a look at Marvel, DC, Image and Dark Horse's offerings for September 2006, and now Part II casts the spotlight on the 10 most interesting books being solicited by "independent" publishers. The full solicitations for September can be found at comicsconspiracy.biz. [NOTE: Most of these titles will probably not be available at your local comic book shop (LCBS) if you do not pre-order them. Is that Spring around the corner?

Yikes, I can't believe it's been a month since I last blogged! Here, at least.Lots of things happening but I haven't really had the time or desire to blog about them. The kids are doing well; Salomé and I are once again in full-angst mode over our living and working situations; and I've reached a little bit louder-levels of busy with the comic book stuff. The weather's finally improving and I can sense the winter blahs starting to fade a bit. Been a rough few months and the feeling that spring was taking forever to come was like a dark cloud…

In the 2004 Presidential election, Bush wasn't the only winner. Apathy struck a critical blow, too, in the non-action of the 40% of those eligible to vote who chose not to. Pretty much broke my spirit, even with accepting that not voting can be considered a vote in and of itself, as opposed to the more cynical "silence = consent."Anyway, I received an email this morning from the Working Families Party, asking members to support Fernando Ferrer's bumbling Mayoral run the old-fashioned way...with cash. Of course, I wasn't terribly pleased...--- "Dan Cantor, WFP" wrote:This time, we urge you to directly…

More later, perhaps…

The Baltimore Comic-Con was mostly worth the last-minute trip. Well, as worth it as a day that starts with me on roller blades for the first time in 5+ years at 7am could possibly be. Put a few faces to names, including AdHouse's Chris Pitzer (who comped me a copy of Hope Larson's attractive Salamander Dream, with custom rounded corners!) and Buzzscope's Yang to my Yin, J.D. Lombardi. Of course, I once again took no pictures because I suck at that kind of thing. In lieu of that, however, I offer People's Evidence A in the case of: "If I…
