REVIEW: V for Vendetta
V for Vendetta, on the other hand—while similarly dated and liberally incorporating elements familiar to any fan of the vengeance seeking, flush with resources anti-hero—holds up remarkably well all these years later. It’s a flawed story, mind you, as Moore slips back and forth between compelling melodramatic fiction and hamfisted polemic (similar in some ways to Fahrenheit 911), but the overall result is that of an incredibly engaging tale—part revenge thriller, part political potboiler, part police procedural—that takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster ride before ending on a somber, if obliquely hopeful, note.
COMMENT: Dawson Ditches Speakeasy
After ending 2005 with a flurry of bad press, fledgling indie publisher, Speakeasy Comics, kicked off 2006 with the first of what was presumably going to be a string of big announcements which would reposition them as a player to be reckoned with in the industry: Rosario Dawson’s Occult Crimes Taskforce (O.C.T.) “Rosario Dawson is

COMMENT: Gwen Stacy Revealed!
Last night (Tuesday) Bryce Dallas Howard appeared on The Tonight Show. She is making the rounds promoting a new film, while sporting the Gwen Stacy hairdo. You can be the judge, but I think it looks pretty good.
Farewell 2005
Don’t let the door hit you… No, not really! It’s been a year of extreme ups and downs (and the downs were particularly rough), but the end result has been relatively positive. For the most part. I’m too lazy to shoot from the hip like Salomé did, and I already covered the comics side of

Brain Dump: Thanksgiving Edition
Turkey Day was as close to perfect as I could imagine; Salomé and the kids, a few friends, some good food, low-stress. Friday we hung out in Jersey, and Saturday and Sunday we chilled. Priceless! Five things I’m thankful for, in no particular order (except for the first one): 1) Salomé, Isaac and India: Without
COMMENT: On Snobs and Good Comics Shops
I hate snobs. Of any stripe, really; literature, movies, music, TV… I hated them in the poetry scene, where snobbery usually takes the form of condencension towards anyone who was popular and/or topical, without necessarily being the finest craftspeople. I hate them equally in the comics scene, where superhero fans are looked down upon like
LINK: Superman Returns
Alright folks, the official web site for Superman Returns has opened up. I just took a quick tour and I really like it. It’s very clean, nothing fancy. In fact, it’s the polar opposite of the Fantastic Four web site. The site has 11 wallpapers ready for downloading, and 8 production stills on display. For
