D&D: Mateo Cor Marak

Mateo Cor Marak
Tiefling Rogue/Lvl 3
Male, 21yo, Chaotic Neutral

Born into slavery in Innarlith (Lake of Steam) to the human concubine of a once-powerful wizard, Mateo was abducted by the local enclave of Red Wizards when the truth of his fiendish bloodline became known – Rakshasa, given away by his catlike eyes and pointed teeth. Raised from infancy along with three other Tieflings of varied bloodlines, he was constantly reminded of the taint of evil his ancestry marked him with, but held to the belief that his ultimate destiny was his own to determine.

Rigorously trained in the arts of stealth and sleight of hand, he was well-prepared for self-sufficiency at the young age of 12 when he managed to escape his evil masters with a group of like-minded young Tieflings, fleeing from Innarlith and scattering in separate directions for safety.

Mateo fled southwest to The Shaar, living among several tribes of nomads before settling in Shaarmid at the age of 15 and falling in with a minor thieves guild that preys on the smaller merchants visiting the city, surviving by a combination of skill, wits and sheer luck. His experiences have led him to following the little-known deity, Akadi, attracted to her dogma of finding enlightenment in one’s own interests and not ever being fettered or imprisoned as such a life is little better than death.

Mateo longs to hone his abilities with the ultimate goal of returning to Innarlith to discover the fate of his mother and assassinate the head of the Red Wizard enclave that raised him. Fanatically independent, he realizes this isn’t something he can accomplish alone but, for obvious reasons, is slow to trust others beyond the fellow members of his guild…and even then, not beyond the fullfillment of short-term goals.
